Deputies asked to look inward during ‘Blue Courage’ training

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) – Sheriff’s deputies in an east Georgia county are taking a new type of police training course in which they’re asked to look inward, do some self-searching and discuss their emotions.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that “Blue Courage” is aimed at reminding Richmond County officers why they got into the profession, and how to work through a career that’s physically and emotionally taxing.

“Blue courage” is defined in the course manual as an officer’s moment of testing that reveals who they are, tests what is important and casts a shadow that shapes their future and legacy.

The Augusta newspaper reports that the Richmond County deputies are beginning the course this month, and it will finish in early 2017.
