Deputy struck, suspect killed in Catoosa County standoff
CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — A Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputy was struck and a suspect was killed after attempting to escape a standoff in a vehicle.
At 10:25 p.m., December 15, 2024, CCSO deputies responded to 641 Karen Drive on shots fired reports along with a female screaming.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found a black male suspect in the driveway next to a running vehicle.
According to CCSO, the suspect was resisting arrest, and a taser had to be used but was ineffective.
The suspect went inside the residence, exited through a side door and attempted to flee.
He began reversing his vehicle out of the driveway when he struck a deputy.
Deputies responded to the imminent danger to the deputy struck by discharging their firearms at the suspect.
The deputy was transported to a local hospital and was later released.
The suspect was also transported to a local hospital, but later died from his injuries.
