Disabled veteran dies from burns on Monday

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Fire Department confirms the disabled veteran who was burned died from his injuries.

Chattanooga Fire Department spokesperson Lindsey Rogers says the 57-year-old veteran was using a mixture of gasoline and oil to burn the stump.

It happened around 1:45 Monday afternoon behind a home on Wheeler Avenue.

Firefighters say the man’s neighbor heard a loud boom when the container exploded and flames blew back onto him.

The veterans name has not being released pending notification of next of kin.
