Discarded cigarette believed to cause fire at Alton Place Apartments

At 10:08 a.m. on Friday, March 20, Red Shift companies responded to the Alton Place Apartments, located on Croll Court for a blaze and flames report, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD).

Once on the scene, firefighters found the doorframe to one of the ground floor apartments ablaze with flames starting to spread.

The fire was extinguished and as a result, an a devastating apartment fire was prevented, they say.

The residents were home at the time, no one was injured.

They say the fire is believed to have started by a discarded cigarette in a trash bag left by the door.

Squad 1, Engine 1, and Ladder 1 were on the scene.
