CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Nearly every night, the Walnut Street Bridge is graced with beautiful singing from local musician Matt Hicks who strives to use music as a way to connect with others.
Hicks’ artistry was recognized by CBS’ David Begnaud when he was in Chattanooga for “Beg Knows America.” Begnaud noticed Hicks’ performance on the Walnut Street Bridge and learned more of his story after sitting down with him.
Hicks often performs the song “Forever Young” as he feels the song is a “reconstruction of my life.” Hicks has experienced various hardships throughout his life and has struggled with depression, but he finds a way to express his emotions and connect with others through music.
What sets Hicks’ soul on fire is that singing provides a connection and the ability to recognize an exchange of energy between the listener and the artist.
