District 27 race heating up

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)- One local state house race is heating up before Election Day.

After upsetting incumbent Patsy Hazlewood, Michelle Reneau is looking to secure the Tennessee House District 27 seat, which covers most of Western Hamilton County from Soddy-Daisy to St. Elmo.

She is facing Democrat Kathy Lennon for the seat.

The Hamilton County Democratic Party have placed signs around the district arguing that Reneau’s desire to reject federal funding would lead to a state income tax among other issues.

Lennon says that it would be a grave mistake to do so.

“If you just want to think about the recent storm we had a couple of weeks ago in Tennessee, how is that being handled? We have to use federal funds for that. How do we.. education, we rely on federal funding. Our roads, we rely on federal funding. So I don’t think cutting federal funding is the answer,” she said.

We reached out to the Reneau campaign, who said they would not respond to this on camera but think these arguments are quote, “silly”.
