District Attorney says video will be released soon of officer involved shooting
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – After demonstrators and supporters of Roger Heard Jr. demanded police videos of his shooting Friday night, the District Attorney’s office has responded.
DA Coty Wamp’s office issued this statement Wednesday evening:
“The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is actively investigating the shooting of a Chattanooga Police Officer that occurred on Friday, August 11, 2023. Facts and evidence are still being
gathered. In the very near future the District Attorney’s Office will be releasing video footage of the incident along with a press release that will give more details.”
Chattanooga Police say three officers were serving a warrant at Speedway gas station at Third and Holtzclaw Friday night.
The preliminary TBI report says Heard pulled a gun as he got out of his vehicle.
The report says multiple officers opened fire on Heard, killing him.
One of the officers was hit by gunfire, but was later released from the hospital.
At the demonstration on Tuesday night, Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy asked for patience.
“I just ask that everyone remains patient as we go through the process of making sure that this investigation is done right. Not fast, but done correctly.”
The District Attorney asked the TBI to handle the investigation.
She has the final call on releasing the video.
