DNA leads to gas station robbery arrest in Alabama

POWELL, Alabama (WDEF) – It took most of the year, but DNA helped DeKalb County investigators solve a gas station robbery.

It happened at the Fuel city station in Powell on April 27th last year.

Investigators took DNA samples from the crime scene back then, but the results just came back.

They connected 53 year old Patsy Goins Dodd to the robbery.

She was arrested on Monday.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris says “with all felons booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center a DNA sample is taken and sent to the Department of Forensics Science in Hoover, where they store the DNA into a National Data base.”

“The DNA is checked with Alabama and other states to see if they match any person that has committed any felony crime, such as murder, rape or robbery.”

“The Investigators did a great job on gathering evidence from the scene and they have worked hard to find a suspect on this case. It took a while for the DNA to come back but it was worth the wait for us to make this arrest.”
