Dog wakes Chattanooga family to alert them of burning house
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A family’s pet dog woke them up to alert them their house was on fire Tuesday morning, saving their lives.
The location of the house fire was in the 3500 block of Jerome Avenue. This house is in the East Lake area, close to Rossville Boulevard.
The dog, Jack, went up to his owner and licked his face to wake him up. Once awake, the owner smelled the smoke and woke everyone else up, rushing them out of the house.
An off-duty Walker County firefighter reported the fire just before 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Firefighters could also see the smoke from their station. They said flames extended about 15 feet above the house.
The fire department says there were several small explosions from burning items in the house.
Chattanooga firefighters prevented the fire from reaching other nearby homes.
The Chattanooga Fire Department says they are investigating the cause of the fire.
No one was injured. But the American Red Cross is helping the impacted residents.
