Domestic dispute on Grove St. leads to attempted murder charge
It happened Saturday morning in the 1200 block of Grove Street Court.
James Williams, 48, of Chattanooga was charged with one count of attempted first degree murder and reckless endangerment after surveillance video showed him firing a gun at a man who was identified as Morris Fitten.
According to the arrest affidavit, Williams told police that fitten came to his home and threatened him. Fitten is reportedly the father of Williams’s girlfriend’s child.
Williams told police he only pulled out his gun and fired a warning shot above Fitten’s head to "scare him away."
But when police reviewed security surveillance video, they saw a different account of what took place.
According to police, the video showed Williams waiting outside for Fitten then confronting Fitten when he arrived. The video also reportedly showed Williams firing several shots at Fitten as he attempted to flee in his vehicle.
Police contacted Fitten and asked him to return to the scene.
Upon further investigation, officers found a bullet hole in the driver’s side upper door frame.
A judge set Williams’s bond at $55,000.
His next court date is July 30th.
