Downtown Bridge now gets weight limitation after inspection

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – TDOT is putting a weight restriction on an old bridge in the downtown area.

The east 11th Street bridge raises the road over a railroad right of way between Peeples and Magnolia Streets.

It’s a couple of blocks south of MLK Boulevard.

Inspectors have put a limit of 34 tons per vehicle over the bridge, effective immediately.

Warning signs will go up around the bridge in the next week.

If your vehicle weighs more than 34 tons, you need to take the 10th Street detour.
