Drivers Are Fed Up With Boy Scout Road

"I’ve been in third world countries and driven on third world roads that are nicer and built better than Boy Scout Road here," Luke Taliaferro said. "I think I’m going to call it Third World Country Boy Scout Road."

Those are strong words but this man owns a lawn and landscape business and said hauling his equipment down Boy Scout Road regularly has left it seriously beaten.

"In my truck I can only do about 15 miles an hour down through here with or without equipment because it’s so dangerous that if you get to going any faster than 25 miles per hour you’ll lose control and hit somebody," Taliaferro said.

Many workers with trailers drive this road every day.

"I mean look, he’s about to lose his poopers," he said as a truck carrying port-a-potties shakily drove past.

Another driver and resident shared his frustration.

"The last time this road was actually paved instead of patching the patches was 1974," said Michael Weathers. "I’ve lived in this area all my life, travel this road daily. It’s one of the roughest roads in Chattanooga."

"I work very hard for everything that I have and to have my equipment just bounced off and thrown around like a rag doll because the city won’t come out here and fix it, it breaks my heart," said Taliaferro.

Messages with Councilman Ken Smith were not returned.
