“Carolina Shrewsbury. An avid caver British lady. She started making climbing, climbing harnesses for herself. For friends, and from there, got into the design of it all, said Ben Beasley, owner. “Chattanooga Industrial Sewing Solutions was born. It had just been already in operation for the, you know, 20 years prior to that. So really, only the last three years have we been doing business under the name Chattanooga Industrial Sewing Solutions.”

“I’m at the point in my career where I just like making stuff, and we got to talking, and I tried to buy a sewing machine from her and ended up with 20 sewing machines and a company,” Beasley said. “We realized the potential that this place had already making stuff for people working at height. ISO certified, made in the USA. So, for a lot of these certifications, we really are one of the only manufacturing facilities that can take it on. And we’re small, but we put out a lot of stuff.”

“You have to be very meticulous,” said Amber Brooks, Machinist. “Pay attention to all the stitches. Make sure every one of them is where they’re supposed to be. Don’t run off the edges, because you want somebody’s life to be safe when they’re wearing them.”

“A lot of our stuff goes through distributors,” Beasley said. “This is an example of one of our models. This will be for somebody who’s working at height and in a harness for extended periods of time. We’re not quite done here. A few more steps to go on it, but everything you see happens here in this facility. People going down on these old ropes, people going down with minimal harnesses or no harnesses, and into these massive pits. And there were a lot of horror stories, and people just wanted to do it safer, more comfortably. ISO certified right here in Chattanooga, able to produce stuff. Lives matter, and people are depending on it, but stuff that is able to be depended on, we’re making it right here in Chattanooga with that, we’ve also got the ability to make packs and gear bags for whoever it is, recreational outdoorsmen, cavers, climbers. And that’s a place where we’re hoping to really grow in the future.”
