Driving Our Economy Forward: Rosie Mae’s Alpaca Farm

WILDWOOD, Ga. (WDEF) —  Rosie Mae’s Alpaca Farm opened in November 2022.  The farm is a dream come true for owners Max and Maegan Lewis of Wildwood Georgia.  It has a unique coffee shop, boutique and Alpaca Farm.  Tonight, we are learning about how the business drives our economy forward with seasonal gifts, flowers, great coffee and handmade goods.

“I asked for alpacas for Christmas when I was three. So, we went and looked at some farms, and I love I fell in love with Vanna,” said Rosie Mae Lewis, Tour Guide & Local Alpaca Expert.

“We went to our local alpaca farms and found out that alpacas are hypoallergenic.  I have over 50 anaphylactic allergies.  So, when we saw that Rosie fell in love and that they were half allergenic, we decided to get them.  We purchased the alpacas in December of 2019.  We didn’t have a barn.  We didn’t have any kind of pasture or anything like that.  So, Max, my husband got to work, and he built the barn and the first set of pastures, and we brought our alpacas home in April of 2020.  And then from there, I’ve always wanted a boutique.  So, I told my husband I was like, I would love to have, you know, a boutique to sell our alpaca stuff in.  So, he got to work.  He built the shop. He’s like, if you’re going to have a boutique, I would love to have coffee.  So, he went around to all the local coffee shops.  He found that mean mug was his favorite.  So, we get fresh roasted beans from them once a week,” said Maegan Lewis, owner of Rosie Mae’s Alpaca Farm & Boutique.

“To be able to make that happen.  We’re doing this.  It was kind of.  It drove me to get done with it.  You know, to make it happen.  And she was just jokingly saying, you know, I want a boutique.  I’ve always wanted to run one.  I was like, well, we could just do it, you know?  And, you know, we started small where, like, we could just get one of those little, rent home buildings, you know, and start small.  And I started looking at what the process where I was like, I can just build one for that. And then it kind of grew, and I wanted to add coffee, just have, like, a little corner and.  Well, then you look at the health department regulations, you got to add this and you got to have this much space and this really sinks.  And so that was, you know, we had to grow it a little bit bigger and a little bit bigger.  And then I just started putting posts in the ground,” said Max Lewis, owner of Rosie Mae’s Alpaca Farm & Boutique.

“So, we went viral on social media in 2023. Totally changed our whole business. We’ve had people from every state in over 15 countries come through, which is really cool because you get to see people from every walk of life and, it’s been a really humbling experience to have people from everywhere coming through. Rosie is open seven days a week and we’re open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 12, Friday and Saturday, 10 to 6. And Sunday 12 to 5. We do events all the time here. We have a fall event. We have; this year we did Easter here. We also do Christmas and have Santa Claus come out. We have live music very often. We have food trucks come out. We have a food truck that comes every other Saturday, for sure, and then we have others that come out as well. So, we’re all the time trying to get the community involved and being here and let people come out enjoy something for free. It’s free to come to Rosie Maze if you want to feed the alpacas, it’s $2. And then, of course, we have the boutique in the coffee shop,” said Maegan.

“I want to expand it so other kids can come here and have more fun than they have in their whole lot that they’ve ever had in their whole life,” said Rosie.
