Driving Our Economy Forward: Special Touch Landscape
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — It’s a company whose owner believes in second chances. Learn how this business has been putting the “Special Touch” on cooperate and residential lawns since 2004. They are driving our economy forward in a meaningful way.
Mike Jones is the owner of Special Touch Landscape.
The business started in 2004.
“We started doing residentials first. And as time progressed, we started picking up some churches, from the churches it led to being able to do stuff for the for the city government, then the County government and then the state government,” said Jones.
Jones also said he has been hiring employees who deserve a second chance in life.
Mark Young works at Special Touch Landscape.
He explained, “A little while ago when I was younger, I got into a little mix-up; caused a little problem and had to go away for a little while and pay my debt to society. It was a good second chance for me; something that I didn’t think I’d ever be doing. But I’ve been… I’ve been with it ever since. So, it’s a good thing. I tell a lot of guys, ‘you don’t know what you like until you do it.'”
Jones added, “Those individuals just made some bad decisions. And I’m just here to try to correct them and put them on the path to where they can help the next person out, just as well, with some of the ideas and some of the things that they’re doing. The businesses are really losing out, because these guys are extraordinary.”
“Michael Jones is one of many success stories we’ve had throughout our Minority Women of Business Program,” Kristin Copeland with EPB said. “He already has a basic foundation in this lawn care profession. So, what we’re trying to do is get him connected with different business development resources to help him drive that new change.”
