Dunlap celebrates Halloweekend with annual ‘Spook Stroll’

DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF) — This ‘Halloweekend’ many towns participated in spooky events that gathered the community.

In the small town of Dunlap, hundreds of kids and families came out to the ‘Spook Stroll’ hosted at Griffith Elementary School.

Ashley Lane Hall created the event a couple of years ago for children to enjoy family-friendly Halloween festivities.

She was inspired by her son who asked why the town never had a Halloween parade.

In this free annual event, families can stroll down the street to receive candy and other items from local organizations.

Multiple Sequatchie County organizations participated in the annual event around the school.

Lauren McIntyre participated in the event with her HOSA students by giving out candy and volunteering.

“We have a great community that comes out and helps support. And people will set up along the pathway… giving out books, giving out candy, cute little drinks and stuff. So we have come and done that and it’s been a really fun thing. It’s been great for kids to learn public service, and we have had a lot of fun with it,” McIntyre said.

Students and families attended the event on Saturday afternoon.

Sequatchie County High students admired the creative costumes they saw during this year’s spooky stroll.

Kids of all ages participated in this year’s event and wore their best costumes.

Featured costumes included classic artists like Michael Jackson to modernized Barbie movie renditions.

Participant Emeree Palmer said, “It’s fun because we got to dress up as the same thing [dressed as a Barbie along with her friend] and there’s a lot of places we can get candy.”

Hundreds of people came out to the event, with cars lining up down the block.

Participant Harper Lee said, “I think this is really fun except for there’s a lot of long lines.”

For the small town, people showed up and showed out to enjoy festive Halloween treats.

“A lot of community people help donate candy too. So we just are here to pass it out and happy to do that,” McIntyre said.
