Dunlap Lions Club hosts ‘Chili Cook-off’ in Harris Park
DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Dunlap Lions Club held a ‘Chili Cook-off’ fundraiser at Harris Park on October 28.
Local organizations could sign up to enter the chili cook-off or even bring items for a silent auction.
Multiple local organizations participated in the event on Saturday.
District Governor for District 12-O of the Lions Club, Keith Cartwright, said that they have about 50 members locally and 40 clubs in the district.
He said the money for this event goes toward childhood cancer, childhood diabetes, as well as vision and hearing resources for children and adults.
“It’s all about serving. The motto of the Lions Club worldwide is ‘We serve.’ Certainly that exemplified here in Sequatchie County and other counties adjacent to us. We want to serve our fellow citizens and folks in need,” County executive Keith Cartwright said.
Many people enjoyed their Saturday at Harris Park with delicious food and games.
Attendees enjoyed playing corn hole and tasting different chili recipes.
Chilis were judged on different factors and ultimately a $100 dollar prize was given to the winner.
News 12’s Amelia Greer was featured in this event as a guest judge.
She judged alongside local figures Stephanie Boyton (Vice President & CEO Erlanger Bledsoe) and Steve Strain (12th Judicial District Assistant District Attorney).
Grand prize chili winner Michael Springborn donated his $100 prize money from Mountain Valley Bank back to the club.
The Dunlap Police Department won the fan favorite chili and raised $200 in donations. They also donated all their proceeds back to the Lions Club.
Kim Harmon with the Dunlap Lions Club said, “In addition to all the auction items donated by businesses and individuals in the community, we also received a generous donation from the SCHS Quarterback Club to cover expenses for the event.”
Harmon also wanted to recognize the Leo Lions who helped with the event.
Chili proceeds, silent auction items, and corn hole winners, helped raise funds for the local organization.
The day was a success for many involved and the Dunlap Lions Club is grateful for the community support.
The corn hole winners were Lupe Martinez and Bayley Moore: with Josh Hall and Wesley Moore placing second. They all donated their prize money back to the Lions Club as well.
