Dunlap Police investigate suspicious calls targeting women

DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF) — Dunlap Police are investigating suspicious phone calls made by a man that targets women.

In Dunlap, women are reporting something unusual happening to them. They are receiving phone calls that have them concerned.

“Very alarming, especially in a little small community like ours that we are not used to. I think everybody is used to getting the scam calls, the sales calls, things like that, but this isn’t looking like that at this point,” Chief Clint Huth, with the Dunlap Police Department said.

Police say a man calls the women and tells them his wife is having an affair with their husbands. He tells them he has video evidence of this and asks them to meet him so he can show it to them.

According to investigators, the man claims he is wealthy and in the trucking business.

Chief Huth is taking these suspicious calls seriously.

“Is it a prank? Is it a scam? He has never asked for any money from anyone that has gotten that far in the conversation with him. But the way I want to view this is worst case scenario is a sexual predator, is the way we are going to view this until we can prove else wise,” Huth said.

Police say earlier this week there were a couple victims, but now more have come forward.
They believe the women are being targeted.

“When he talks to the female subjects he is calling them by name he is describing the physical features of their husband to them so obviously he is getting the information from somewhere,” Chief Huth said.

Investigators are now trying to determine if the victims have anything in common. They want to get the word out, so community members know this is happening.

“Luckily no one has fallen for his trick yet, but we definitely don’t want no one to either,” Chief Hut said.
