Dunlap traffic stop leads to arrest of Grundy County man

DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF) — Dakota Johnson of Grundy County has been arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, among other charges, in Sequatchie County following a failed traffic stop.

Dunlap police officers attempted a traffic stop on a Kia sedan on Rankin Avenue for driving offenses on Thursday, October 16.

Johnson did not pull over, initiating a pursuit.

He attempted to flee the city, driving recklessly through numerous streets in Dunlap.

Officers chased him to the end of Buddy Skyles Road, where he had tried to evade officers by driving through yards, eventually striking a HVAC unit next to a home.

Johnson retreated back onto the road, but was soon brought to a halt by spike strips deployed by deputies and officers.

After stopping Johnson and identifying him, it was found that he was wanted out of Grundy County on felony charges.

Following the pursuit in Dunlap, Johnson was charged with:

  • Felony evading arrest
  • Possession of schedule II – methamphetamine
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Reckless driving
  • Vandalism over $1000
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Johnson has been transported to the Sequatchie County Justice Center for booking.
