Economy Inn residents will be able to get belongings on Thursday
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — After being padlocked for a week, the Economy Inn will be opening on Thursday for residents to get their belongings.
After hearing hours of testimony on Monday, a judge dissolved a restraining order against the extended stay hotel on Brainerd Road. The owner will have to make some changes, including adding extra security.
Last week, the motel was boarded up and residents had to leave, after the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deem the place a public nuisance.
They say police have responded to hundreds of criminal calls over the past two years.
Janice Hixson, the owner of Economy Inn, issued a statement saying the number of incidents declined since she took over in 2015. She says the closure was hard on residents.

Hixson says on Thursday, depending on if the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office releases money, residents can receive a refund if they did not get their full stay. She says people can also pick up their belongings.
A status hearing to see if the motel has made any progress will be on June 8.
