EPB warns customers of potential phone scam
Company says scam callers may be referring customers to automated payment system
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — EPB is warning the community about a scam some of its customers may be experiencing or have experienced.
Some customers have reached out to the company’s call center reporting referrals to an automated payment system.
The issue is the company doesn’t use such a system.
Questions about customer accounts would instead result in a direct human-to-human phone call.
“We encourage any customer that might be suspicious of any activity related to a call or email that doesn’t seem quite right to reach out to us directly,” said EPB’s Sophie Moore.
Moore says most spam contacts have appeared to look like they’re calling from an EPB phone line.
She adds that if a customer feels suspicious for any reason, hang up and call the company immediately.
