Escapee Casey White indicted for murder of jailer Vicky White

She helped him escape after a jailhouse romance according to police

FLORENCE, Alabama (WDEF) – A grand jury on Tuesday indicted Jail escapee Casey White on a charge of murder for the death of the prison official who helped him get free.

The manhunt for Casey and Vicki White (no relation) made national headlines in May.

Vicky White 1Vicky White was a jail officer who checked out Casey for a bogus checkup and never returned to the facility in Lauderdale County.

Instead, they headed north and were eventually cornered in Indiana 11 days later.

Prosecutors still believe that Vicky White took her own life as police were closing in on their wrecked vehicle.

But they are charging Casey with felony murder.


The indictment says “in the course and furtherance of committing escape in the first degree, (he)caused the death of Vicky White, who died from a gunshot wound to the head.”

Casey’s attorney tells Al.com that he will plead not guilty at his arraignment.

Meanwhile, White is back in prison serving out the 75 years he got for a crime spree in 2015.
