Exploring the Medical Frontier with new technology

How Science Fiction TV influence medical technology

CHATTANOOGA, TN –

In the 1960s Gene Rodenberry boldly took us to places no one has gone before.  Not only did he introduce us to new characters that would be beloved for generations, he also helped move technology into a new frontier.

Those influences can be seen in things like medical beds, but today we connected with an expert in cutting edge medical technology to take us on a quick tour of the medical frontier. Optimize U’s Josh Porter joins us to talk about how it works and who might be a good candidate for a therapy that was once only make believe.

“Red light therapy is what we refer to as photo modulation. In photo modulation you’re using light therapy thru wave therapy to penetrate in to a certain area” says Porter. “We use red light therapy or near infrared therapy in order to penetrate deeper. So you can use it for a variety of different things.  Here in our office, we use it a lot for soft tissue injuries. Clearly people have to be a little closer to the unit when they’ve got something localized. But if it’s also being used for, let’s talk about mental health somebody struggles with depression or anxiety they don’t have to be as close they can just be inside the room within about three feet and they can still get that penetration from red light therapy.”

According to Josh Porter, clinical data is proving that red light therapy can do more than just relieve post-surgical pains. It can also help with wound healing, depression, and even acne and other skin conditions as well as reducing pain and inflammation.

Some trials are even starting to show benefits to a few neurological disorders. “The root level treatment for Parkinson’s, any type of neurological is going to come back to what we refer to as cellular metabolic health,” claims Porter.  “That’s mitochondrial health, and mitochondria are the powerhouses within the cell. When you use red light therapy, so for example Parkinson’s. You’re trying to rejuvenate that cellular health so what you’re trying to do is create a cascade of new mitochondria, new energy production, better stability or homeostasis of that cell. Which then you will see again there’s been some pretty promising results of slowing the progression of those diseases.”
