FAFSA processing to be delayed for 2024-2025 school year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) — Students preparing for college should expect a delay in FAFSA processing, according to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC).

The U.S. Department of Education says that records for the 2024-2025 FAFSA will not be released to colleges and universities until mid-March.

FAFSA on StudentAid.gov did not become operational until January, when it normally becomes available in October.

THEC said the delay was due to “program updates to improve online functionality.”

However, they say this delay will not impact the availability of student aid funds. But students may receive financial aid offers later than expected.

The Tennessee Promise FAFSA deadline was pushed back to May 15.

The priority FAFSA deadline for the Tennessee Student Assistance Award is April 15.

And the FAFSA deadline for the Tennessee HOPE Scholarship is September 1.
