Faith based film under production in Murray County
MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — If you happened to see a SWAT team in Murray County this week, don’t be alarmed, it was all part of a movie shoot.
A new feature film titled “Set Free” is in production, and News 12 got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the action.
The project is led by Brandon Cannon, director of Soul Purpose Entertainment, who says the story was inspired by more than two decades of experience in the criminal justice system.
“There are certain scenes in this film that have been cut from different cases, per se,” Cannon said. “I won’t go into specifics, but while the names and places are fictional, many of the story’s elements come from real experiences throughout my career.”
Cannon describes Set Free as a story about redemption, hope, and the power of faith.
“When you’re in the darkness in life, when things just aren’t going your way or tragedy strikes, there’s still hope,” he said. “God’s out there, and He can set you free from anything. Sometimes we just have to let go and let God do what we can’t.”
Murray County Sheriff Jimmy Davenport says he stands behind the film’s message and the man behind it.
“I’ve known Mr. Cannon for a very long time, and I believe in what he is doing,” Sheriff Davenport said. “Any time we have the ability to promote the name of Jesus Christ, I will always be okay with that.”
For Cannon, the purpose has never been fame or fortune, it’s about faith.
“I don’t care about being famous or rich,” he said. “That’s never been my goal. It’s always been to honor God. He’s given me the talent and the ability, and I’m just humbled, honored, and blessed to serve.”
As filming continues across North Georgia, Set Free is already shining a light on Murray County, and the powerful message behind it.
