Falcons Make Changes to Offensive Line After Injury to Sam Baker

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) – The Atlanta Falcons have shifted rookie Jake Matthews to left tackle after a season-ending injury to Sam Baker.
Matthews moved over from right tackle as the Falcons returned to practice Monday. Former starter Lamar Holmes, who had been listed as Baker’s backup, moved into Matthews former spot on the right side.
Baker sustained a torn patellar tendon in his right knee during a 32-7 loss to the Houston Texans in a preseason game Saturday night.
Matthews was the No. 6 pick in this year’s NFL draft. He played left tackle at Texas A&M and was expected to eventually move to that position with the Falcons.
Now, he’ll have to take the more demanding spot right away.
Matthews says he’s up to the challenge, though there will be an adjustment period.
