Families Explore School Options
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Families across Tennessee have access to a wide range of K–12 education options, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online learning programs, homeschooling, and micro schooling.
In the greater Chattanooga area, 84 schools and nonprofit organizations are hosting events such as open houses, parent information nights, and community forums to provide families with information about these options.
Statewide, more than 650 schools are involved, representing a combined enrollment of over 291,000 students.
Families interested in financial support can apply through the Tennessee Education Scholarship Program (EFS) portal.
The portal allows parents and guardians to submit applications for funding to attend eligible K–12 schools.
For new students, the application window opens January 13, 2026, and closes January 30, 2026. Funding disbursements are projected for mid-January and March.
The portal provides step-by-step instructions, helping families complete applications, track their status, and access available financial aid.
These resources give families structured opportunities to compare programs, understand enrollment procedures, and learn about the variety of educational environments available.
