Family Justice Center Hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Luncheon
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — We’re nearing the end of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
On Monday, the Chattanooga Family Justice Center held a special luncheon to raise awareness about the issue.
Cameras weren’t allowed inside of the luncheon, as several survivors spoke to the group.
But organizers there say it was inspiring to hear some of those women share their stories.
“Domestic violence is very scary for the public often to understand the complexity of what happens, to feel really helpless, like how do you help people who are going through it?” said Valerie Radu, executive director for the Family Justice Center. “We see the other side of it, where we see a lot of survivors who are just so amazing, and inspire us when they come here. It’s like, wow, I can’t believe you have figured out how to live your life in this way, and so we thought it would be really nice to share stories of resilience, of overcoming and of hope.”
The Family Justice Center encourages anyone impacted by domestic violence to call a 24-hour hotline at 423-755-2700.
