Family of a Road Rage Victim Speaks Out

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Case closed, but clearly open wounds remain for the family of Alex Gallman.

Anna Caro, Gallman’s Fiancee, says, "The perfect dad."

On December 17th, the father of three dropped his sons off at school and made plans to spend the day with Caro.

It was the anniversary of their first date.

But before they made it to the front door of the restaurant, a road rage incident at the corner of Moore and Terrace, halted their lives forever.

Dianne Gallman, Alex’s Mother, says, "We know our son and we also know what took place."

Family members say Gallman got out of his vehicle because he thought he was hit from behind.

When he approached 62-year-old Richard Manning’s vehicle, he was shot dead.

Rashae Doyle adds, "He is the type of person who would diffuse any situation and turn the other cheek."

Manning was charged with criminal homicide, but died before the case went to trial.

Manning had a host of medical problems, like cancer.

Caro says, "We are disappointed that we will not bring this case to trial."

Dianne Gallman adds, " And neither side will have the opportunity to present their case in the courts of law."

Now, their focus shifts toward their three grandchildren, ranging in age from five to eleven.

Dianne Gallman adds, "Just last week, the youngest grandson, wrote on the classroom assignment to name three wishes you wish you could have. He wrote, I wish I could see my Dada."

Because that wish won’t come true, family members work to keep Alex Gallman’s memory alive by writing him letters and celebrating what would have been his 40th birthday.

An attorney for the Gallman family says they don’t know at this point if they’ll pursue further legal action.
