Fan fire causes Chattooga County Jail evacuation
SUMMERVILLE, Georgia (WDEF) – The evacuation at the Chattooga County Jail this morning was because of a ceiling fan early this morning.
Sheriff Shrader says the exhaust fan was in the general population cell blocks of the jail.
Jail employees used a fire extinguisher to put it out, but the Fire Department was called to check it out.
So the inmates had to be evacuated into a recreation yard.
Once the smoke was cleared out, they were put back in the cells.
No one was hurt.
