Fatal House Fire
Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) Chattanooga firefighters confirm one person is dead in a house fire Monday night.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 1332 Highland Way a little after 8:00pm.
The house was fully engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.
Firefighters quickly determined it was too dangerous to enter the home. Instead, the firefighters fought the fire defensively, keeping the fire from spreading to other houses located nearby.
When the bulk of the fire was extinguished, firefighters found a body in a back bedroom. Please note, at the time of this report, firefighters were still conducting a search of the one-story structure to look for any other victims.
One person reportedly escaped the blaze before firefighters arrived on the scene.
29-year-old Haley Neal told officials she barely escaped through a bedroom window.
She was taken to the hospital, where her condition was still being assessed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Major Crimes Division of the Chattanooga Police Department will also be involved in the investigation, which is standard protocol when a fatality or serious injury is involved.
