Father of Supply-Side Economics will speak this fall at UTC
Dr. Arthur B. Laffer will speak on the history of the U.S. tax system
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – UTC will play host to a renowned economist this fall.
The Scott L. Probasco, Jr., Distinguished Chair of Free Enterprise (Probasco Chair) will host Dr. Arthur B. Laffer on Thursday, October 3.
Dr. Laffer is know as “The Father of Supply-Side Economics.”
He will speak on “Taxes Have Consequences: An Income Tax History of the U.S.”
Dr. Laffer was an advisor for President Ronald Reagan and a member of the Reagan/Bush Finance Committee.
He has also advised British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s.
President Donald Trump awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom n 2019.
“Dr. Laffer’s impact on economics and business truly cannot be understated, even transcending into popular culture — we laughed while planning this event as we realized the Laffer Curve is referenced in a classroom scene of the 1980s box office hit, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” said Dr. Claudia W. Kramer, UTC’s current Probasco Chair. “We are honored to be able to partner with the Young America’s Foundation to bring this renowned thinker and strategist to share his insights with our local community.”
