Father sentenced to 23 years after infant daughter dies in hot car

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A father has been sentenced to 23 years for leaving his 11 month old daughter in a hot car.
She died in her car seat in the summer of 2023.
Investigators say she had been in the car for 13 hours.
Nicholas Peter Merrill was separated from the child’s mother at the time.
He pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated child neglect, but the murder charge was dropped.
