UPDATE: FedEx plane skids off Chattanooga Regional Airport runway after gear failure

 

UPDATE:

There were no injuries to the people on board.

Chattanooga Airport released a statement that the primary runway is closed until further notice. There is a secondary runway open.

They urge travelers to check their flight status prior to arriving at the airport. To check your flight status, go to www.chattairport.com.


EARLIER:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Many of Chattanooga’s emergency services rushed to the Chattanooga Regional Airport to assist a FedEx plane’s final approach with landing gear failure.

Three people were on board of the aircraft.

The call came in at 11:04 p.m. Wednesday with the Chattanooga Fire Department, CFD Special Ops, Chattanooga Police Department, and Hamilton County EMS getting in position as the aircraft circled before making a final descent.

The plane crash landed and skidded off the end of the runway. It came to a stop between the runway and the Jubilee Drive safety area.

All three people are accounted for. There was no fire, just smoke from the engines.

The Chattanooga Fire Department thanks the pilot, air personnel, and all responding agencies for their coordinated efforts.
