Female hiker rescued after rock dislodges and strikes her head on Rainbow Lake Trail

A female hiker has been rescued after a rock dislodged from the terrain on Rainbow Lake Trail and struck her in the head, according to the Office of Emergency Management.

They say at 12:00 p.m., Signal Mountain Fire Department responded to the entrance to Rainbow Lake trailhead.

Firefighters arrived on scene and received the location coordinates of the injured hiker. They then realized this would be in Waldens Ridge Emergency Service (WRES) district.

They say Signal Mountain FD requested a mutual aid response for WRES Rope Rescue team to respond to the Edwards Point Trail because the terrain was not as steep and rocky as Rainbow Lake trail.

WRES rope team and Hamilton County EMS entered Edwards Point trail while Signal Mountain fire personnel provided emergency medical care to the patient until HCEMS arrived on the scene.

They say the plan was to provide patient care, secure patient in stokes basket, carrying her to the ATV vehicle and drive her out of the woods to the ambulance.

Signal Mountain Fire Department, Captain Robert Clark, reported a group of non-resident hikers were enjoying the trails of Rainbow Lake, when a rock dislodge from the mountainous terrain and struck the female in the head.
