Fire on apartment balcony on Lee Highway

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – At 2:15pm, the Chattanooga Fire Department was called to the Villas at Oakcrest Apartments on Lee Highway on reports of a fire.

According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, 6 fire companies responded.

When firefighters arrived on scene, Captain Terri Roshell reported light smoke from a third floor apartment and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Fire officials say firefighters determined the fire started on the balcony of the third floor apartment after a resident had been smoking on the balcony and extinguished the cigarette in a bucket.

According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, the fire was contained to the third floor balcony but the two apartments below sustained water damage.

Fire officials estimate the damages to be $40,000.
