Fire Department warns citizens not to drive through flood waters
HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) — After their car stalled out driving through flood waters, its passengers had to climb out of the windows.
The Chattanooga Fire Department took to social media to remind the public that it is not safe to drive through flood waters.
“We aren’t here to shame anyone and accidents happen, but this is just a friendly reminder not to try to drive through flooded roadways,” they said in the post.
On Thursday night around 7:45 p.m., Chattanooga firefighters responded to the call on Austin Road in Hixson, Tennessee.
This Mercedes car stalled out while attempting to pass through the waters, CFD said. But its passengers got to safety after exiting through the windows.
Afterwards, first responders shut down the roads until the water receded.
“It’s not worth the damage to your car,” CFD added. “Please turn around.”
