Fire destroys home on Big Ridge

Smoke and flames both were visible when the firefighters first arrived on Colonial Shores Drive.

At first firefighters were told someone might be inside, but found no one after a quick search.

They started fight the fire from inside the residence, but then the flames broke through the roof.

Firefighters were ordered out for their safety.

The high winds made it difficult for firefighters.

It took them more than an hour to get the fire out.

They also stayed on scene for several hours putting out hot spots.

The house was considered a total loss, but the garage was saved.

No one was hurt.

Three people live in the house, but were not home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
