Fire fills apartment complex with smoke
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Sunday night, Chattanooga firefighters responded to an accidental fire at the Overlook Apartments.
The fire happened just before 10:30 p.m. at 1201 Boynton Drive.
Someone threw a burnt cardboard box down a trash cute from the eighth floor after a cooking mishap, CFD said.
It then caught the trash compactor on fire on the ground level. Smoke traveled up the chute and filled the entire building.
The apartment complex evacuated most residents.
Firefighters put out the fire and ventilated every floor.
There were no injuries due to this fire.
