Fire in Hixson Detroys Home

An early afternoon house fire completely destroys a $350,000 Hixson home.

Emergency personnel responded to an automatic fire alarm located at 2804 Gold Point Circle South.

Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department first arrived on the scene and saw no visible flames to the front of the home.

Once firefighters made it around to the backside of the house, they said the sunroom was fully engulfed in flames and had collapsed into the basement.

The homeowner, John Coxwell, and family were home and able to escape without no injuries.

The cold temperatures played a role when fire crews tried to combat the flames.

Fire officials said the windy conditions and a frozen fire hydrant made it difficult to get the under control.

Red Bank Fire Department, and Sequoyah came to the scene to assist the Dallas Bay fire Department.

The Soddy Daisy Fire Dept was on stand-by at Dallas Bay’s fire station for any additional emergency calls in their district.

Fire official said, the homeowners had a fire going in the fireplace in their sunroom.

The fire ambers escaped from the chimney wall and traveled through the attic and throughout the rest of the home.

The homeowners are insured and will be staying with family.
