Firefighters eat breakfast and then fight fire at IHOP

Chattanooga (WDEF) – A Chattanooga fire crew had an usually quick response to the fire at the Hixson Pike IHOP Friday morning.

Battalion Chief Don bowman and the team with Quint 16 had a morning staff meeting at the restaurant near Northgate.

As they were leaving, one of the firefighters spotted flames on the outside of the building.

They believe the fire started in the mulch outside, but it got into the walls and smoke started to fill the restaurant.

They had to tear into the walls to get to the flames, but had it out in a few minutes.

Chief Bowman believes it was most likely caused by someone tossing a cigarette into the mulch.

No one was hurt, but the restaurant did have to be evacuated.
