Firefighters rescue driver after plunge from Big Ridge Road

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A driver on Big Ridge was lucky that someone saw his wreck.

The witness saw him leave Big Ridge Road in Hixson around 8 AM and plunge down a steep embankment.

Firefighters found the vehicle 100 feet down a ravine, which couldn’t be seen from the road.

They had to free him from the vehicle and then carry him in a basket up the ravine.

Chief Don Bowman says overall, the elderly driver was lucky.

“If the motorist had not seen the accident and called 911,” said Bowman, “that man probably would not have survived, because no one would have known that he was down there.”
