CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A fire caused extensive damage to a home in Signal Mountain over the weekend.

An off-duty officer reported the fire at 6:45 a.m. Saturday morning. The house on fire was in the 4000 block of Sanders Drive, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD).

By the time CFD arrived, flames were coming through the roof of the home.

Firefighters were concerned there could have been someone still in the home, because there was a car in the driveway. Therefore, they called in for backup.

The fire department said they put out the fire and did multiple searches through the home. However, they never found anyone inside.

CFD said firefighters had a hard time with the search because there were so many items in the home.

They are not sure what caused the fire yet, but they are still investigating.

The fire caused a lot of damage to the house as well, firefighters said.
