First Responders, Civilians climb 110 stories to honor those killed in 9/11 attack
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Dozens of firefighters climbed hundreds of flights of stairs today to honor those who died in the 9/11 attacks.
It was held this morning on Chestnut Street.
Each participant, whether civilian or first responder, paid tribute to an FDNY firefighter by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.
News 12 spoke with a first responder who was on the ground on September 11th.
He explained why it was important for people of all ages to participate.
He says, “It’s hard to explain why it happened but when they get to see this, they get to see their heroes and this is what makes it worthwhile. ”
At last check, they raised more than $16,000.
The Stair Climb benefits the families of our nation’s fallen firefighters.
