Five Chattanooga schools receive $1,000 STEAM grants

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Five schools in Chattanooga are receiving donations from BASF to benefit their STEAM programs.

BASF, who calls themselves the world’s leading chemical company, is donating a total of $5,000 to Chattanooga high schools.

They are donating $1,000 to each school to support their science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) curriculum.

Those five schools are:

  • Central High School
  • Hamilton County Virtual School
  • STEM School Chattanooga
  • Tyner Academy
  • Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts

BASF said at least one student from each school participated in their free TECH Academy, which is a workforce development program.

“This donation will go towards STEAM activities in our Biology and Scientific Research classes. The impact will allow students access to quality materials while fostering their critical thinking in scientific pursuits,” said STEM School Principal Jim David. “We appreciate BASF for providing our students the opportunity to be part of TECH Academy. Allowing students real-world experiences with professionals in their field is an unmatched learning opportunity.”
