Five students taken to hospital after morning bus crash in Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, Ga. (WDEF) — A Walker County school bus struck a tree Tuesday morning while enroute to school.
The call came in at 7:13 a.m., according to Sheriff Steve Wilson.
The bus reportedly left the roadway and struck a tree, sending five students to area hospitals. Sheriff Wilson confirmed the incident took place on Cook Rd. in Lafayette.
Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.
We don’t know the status of students involved or what caused the crash at this time.
News 12 has reached out to Superintendent Damon Raines for additional information, and Raines released the following:
“We received notification of an accident involving one of our school buses this
morning during its morning route serving Naomi Elementary School, LaFayette
Middle School, and LaFayette High School. Approximately 40 students were on
board. Five students were transported for precautionary measures, and the other
students were transported to their respective schools after being released by law
enforcement.”
