Florida fugitive, affiliated woman arrested for drug possession in Collegedale
COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Florida man was arrested in Collegedale, Tennessee on Wednesday after police identified him as a fugitive. Shortly thereafter, police arrested a woman trying to take possession of his car. Both were arrested for drug possession.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office alerted Collegedale officers that the Florida fugitive’s vehicle was in a Walmart parking lot on Little Debbie Parkway.
Collegedale officers then made contact with and arrested the fugitive, Jason Whitehill Smith, as he was exiting the store.
He was wanted for a Florida court violation related to battery with a firearm, according to Collegedale authorities. Various news outlets in Florida reported that police arrested Smith back in August of 2022 for shooting his fiancé in the leg.
After taking the 45-year-old man into custody, officers searched Smith and found a glass pipe in his possession. Collegedale Police said they also found meth inside his vehicle.
Officials charged him with drug possession and disorderly conduct.
According to police, a woman named Christine Lynn Lonergan drove to the Walmart to take possession of Smith’s car. Police found that she was under the influence. They searched her car and also found narcotics
and marijuana.
Authorities charged Lonergan with DUI and possession of illegal drugs.
Police transported both Smith and Lonergan to the Hamilton County Jail.
In addition, Smith’s bond is set at $2,000 and he has a court date of August 16. And Lonergan’s bond is set at $3,500 with a court date of August 23.
