Flu Vaccines Now Available Locally

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Hamilton County Health Department has begun offering flu vaccines ahead of the 2025–2026 flu season.

Starting this week, flu shots will be available at all Health Department locations, with no appointment necessary.

The vaccine is recommended for anyone six months and older and includes high-dose options for those 65 and older, as well as egg-free alternatives for individuals with egg allergies.

Health officials encourage those with allergies to call ahead to confirm availability.

According to the CDC, the flu is a contagious respiratory illness that can lead to serious complications.

Those at higher risk include older adults, children under 2, people with asthma, pregnant women, and individuals with preexisting health conditions or weakened immune systems.

To help stop the spread of flu, the CDC recommends simple prevention measures such as frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, and staying home when ill.

Annual vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect against the flu.

The Hamilton County Health Department emphasizes that flu prevention is a community effort, urging everyone to take proactive steps to keep themselves and others safe this season.
