For the 1st Time, More Americans Are Eating Out Than Buying Groceries
For the first time, more of us are dining out at restaurants than buying groceries for our meals.
And Millennials are leading the trend.
The 25-34 year olds are set to take over the Baby Boomer generation this year.
And they prefer eating out to cooking at home.
Meanwhile, the Boomers are increasingly staying home and saving money.
The change is good news for restaurants, but a major challenge for grocery stores.
But not every restaurant is benefiting.
The Restaurant Association reports that Millennials favor fast food, deli food, and pizza over coffee shops, fancy restaurants or casual dining.
They also like ethnic restaurants, too.
The RA website says “Millennials view dining out as a social event (i.e. a chance to connect)."
