For the Culture: Free Haircuts Making a Difference
CHATTANOOGA , Tenn. (WDEF) Janaria McIntosh, also known as Jay, is the passionate founder of For the Culture, an organization dedicated to giving back to the community in ways that are both practical and uplifting. Every 1st and 3rd Saturday, Jay and her dedicated team of volunteers provide free haircuts, hairstyles, and even nail services to those in need. It’s an initiative that brings people together and offers a helping hand to those who might not otherwise have access to these services.
“It’s all been a blessing,” Jay says with a smile. “I have an awesome team that’s been with me from the beginning, and there are also many volunteers who reach out and just want to give their time. They come in, they give their hours back, and they connect with the kids. It’s amazing to see the community come together like this.”
What started as a simple idea to offer free grooming services has now blossomed into much more than just an event—it’s a movement. *For the Culture* is about building relationships, empowering others, and demonstrating that a little care and attention can go a long way. For Jay, it’s not just about providing services; it’s about showing the kids and families in her community that someone cares.
“The feeling that you get from the kids—when they love you, care for you, and appreciate that you’re there for them—it’s priceless,” she says. “I don’t have any kids of my own, but these kids, they are my kids. I know that what we do here is something they need. They appreciate it, and they will never forget it. Knowing that *For the Culture* was there for them when they needed it most—that’s what’s most important.”
Through her work, Jay is making a lasting impact. She’s not just providing free services; she’s creating a sense of belonging and showing young people that the community has their back. The gratitude and smiles she sees from the kids each Saturday reaffirm her belief in the power of giving back.
